Re-creating a children’s garden tea party inspired by Netflix’s “With Love, Meghan” by Meghan Markle (Meghan Sussex) is a delightful way to celebrate elegance and creativity while entertaining little ones. This blog post will guide you through the steps to host your own enchanting event, including making sandwiches, preparing a fruit platter, and brewing peppermint tea as Meghan did in the show.
Begin by setting the scene. We decided to use part of the kids’ playroom and the low children’s table to set up. Decorate the area with flowers, or fairy lights to create a whimsical ambiance. A children’s garden tea party thrives on its magical atmosphere. If you have extra decor on-hand, don’t hold back. We used whatever was already easily accessible in the house. Making magical memories does not have to be expensive, and it doesn’t require extra trips to the store.

The menu is the heart of the tea party. Take inspiration from Meghan and prepare simple yet elegant sandwiches. Opt for cucumber and cream cheese or ham and cheese options, cutting them into fun shapes with cookie cutters. Create a vibrant fruit platter featuring strawberries, blueberries, and melon slices, arranging them in a visually appealing way. These refreshing treats will delight both the eyes and taste buds of your little guests.
No tea party is complete without tea! Brew a pot of peppermint tea, just like Meghan did, and serve it in child-friendly teacups. For children who may not enjoy tea, consider offering a sweetened iced tea or a fruity punch as an alternative. Be sure to provide small plates and napkins for easy handling and cleanup. We used lavender honey to sweeten our hot cup of tea. My children are familiar with using glass teacups. I believe that the Montessori approach helped me to feel comfortable introducing my children to “breakable items” at a younger age. This helped them to develop a sense of “being gentle” and handling certain items with extra care. These specific teacups were extra special to me because I purchased them last year in preparation of throwing a Fairy Tea Party for my girls and my mom. I purchased enough cups for us all while shopping in Home Goods. Unfortunately, my mother suddenly became ill and even more suddenly passed away. I am still heavily in the grieving process. It was very meaningful to finally have a tea party with these teacups and remembering my mother in the process. In the future, I plan to finally do the Fairy tea party theme. It’s still so hard to imagine doing it without her by my side.

Finally, add some entertainment to keep the children engaged. Incorporate garden-themed games or crafts, such as flower crown making or a treasure hunt. These activities will not only elevate the experience but also create lasting memories for everyone involved. However, if you simply have a great conversation with laughter that is more than enough. Let’s get back to the joys of being in each other’s company and enjoying the small yet elevated details of hosting, even if the people you are hosting are your own children. With these tips, you can bring the charm of “With Love, Meghan” to your own garden tea party, making it a memorable occasion for all.

In the accompanying Youtube video to this blog post I am making homemade baguette, and scones for the tea party. Below are the recipes for both the scones and the baguettes. I use Kamut flour from The Food Nanny and I followed her recipe with only slight changes. If you want to start baking bread but it seems like a hard task, I encourage you to check out The Food Nanny’s website or Instagram, because her content and cookbook helped me on my baking journey so much! I have always been a great cook, but baking was a weak point. Now, I feel pretty confident baking treats and bread.
How to Make Blueberry Scones:
- Ingredients:
- 2 cups of Kamut flour
- 1/2 cup cold butter
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 Pink Himalayan sea salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1/2 whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup blueberries
- (optional glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, 3 teaspoons water, 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice well combined).
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350. Then in a bowl mix together butter, flour, salt, sugar and baking powder.
- Mix together milk, heavy cream, and egg, then fold into the dry ingredients.
- Bring the dough together with hands and turn onto floured surface then place into a pan to press out flat. Cut the dough into desired even sections.
- Place blueberries on top (optional to sprinkle with sugar or brown sugar).
- Lay the scones on a pan with parchment paper and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
- Optional to make the glaze and pour over the warm scones (We opted to not use the glaze because we didn’t want it to be too sweet this time).
How to Make Homemade Baguettes:
- Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups of warm water
- 1.5 tbsp active dry yeast
- 2 tsps sugar
- 2.5 cups Kamut flour
- 2 tsps salt
Directions:
- In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup of water, sugar and yeast. Mix together then cover with plastic wrap. Let this stand for 5 minutes. While waiting, in a separate bowl mix together flour, salt, remaining 1 tsp sugar. Then add the yeast mixture when it is foamy after 5 minutes.
- Mix together the dough then turn it on a floured surface.
- Cut dough into 4 even pieces for mini baguettes. Spray a baguette pan with cooking oil and place the log shaped dough pieces on each separate part of the pan. Cover with a kitchen towel to rise for 15 minutes
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees while the dough rises. Once the dough has expanded to double its size place in the oven for 10-15 minutes depending on your oven, and place a small pan of water in the oven as well for steam.
- Remove from oven and butter.
